SAN DIEGO — Residents are being warned of a possible scam involving a fraudulent fire inspector and fraudulent billing. A person — or possibly more than one — has visited multiple homes in San Diego claiming to be a fire inspector, according to officials with the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department (SDFRD). This person reportedly does a cursory look around a homeowner’s property, asks the homeowner for a signature and leaves. A bill from a fraudulent company, First Fire Systems Inspection Company then arrives in a few days, according to officials. Legitimate fire inspectors from the SDFRD always wear uniforms, carry a badge, city business cards and identification, and leave paperwork at the inspection sites, said Lee Swanson, a public information officer for the SDFRD.
