On Sept. 16, two surfers helped unfurl “Girl from Martinique,” a 42-inch-by-72-inch work of hand-painted art on silk by La Jolla artist Judy Judy Judy. The artist temporarily hung the painting, which she created from a photo she took of a girl on the French island of Martinique, at the Windansea Surf Shack. Judy Judy Judy was inspired to display the piece at Windansea by the philosophy of Martinique: “Carpe diem” — live for the moment — more popularly translated as “seize the day.”
