Several Point Loma High teams are finding the winning formula as spring sports enter league schedules.
SOFTBALL
Girls softball is leading the charge as they are ranked fourth overall in the San Diego CIF section and second in MaxPreps Div. II listing.
They have drawn attention with a 12-2-1 record in non-league play. They have posted double-digit wins over El Capitan (11-1), Mar Vista (14-2) and 13-3), University City (10-1) and Clairemont (14-4).
Avery MacPherson is batting a team-leading .452 with Annika Isaacson (441), Ryoko Schroth (.433), and Nanako. Schroth (.421), all regulars following close behind. Ella Poulin has hit four home runs with Isaacson (three), with Siena Balistreri and MacPherson blasting two each. On the mound, Poulin’s 7-1 record tops the group.
The girls open Western League play April 15 against Cathedral Catholic. Other league teams are Christian, Patrick Henry, and Our Lady of Peace Academy.
BOYS LACROSSE
Some big scores have been registered by the Pointer boys, who are defending CIF champions. They have bested Mater Dei (10-3), University City (10-0), El Capitan (15-5), San Diego (14-5), Grossmont (12-2), and Mission Bay (16-0).
With several Pointer football players on the roster, the Pointers are ranked fifth best in CIF and fourth best in Div. I while recording a 7-2 record to date.
Western League games begin April 11 against Cathedral Catholic. Other league teams are Coronado, La Jolla, Patrick Henry, Scripps Ranch, and St. Augustine.

BASEBALL
Also defending CIF champions, the Pointer baseball team appears to be as strong as last year’s team. They are ranked eighth in the San Diego CIF and second in Div. II after posting a 7-2 record in pre-season play.
Ben Waterman has logged the highest batting average (.467) with Branden Keeling (.393), Hunter Reddeg (.381), and Phoenix Brant (.333) following. Both Druw Frost and Reddeg have hit home runs in the past two weeks as the team defeated its last two opponents by a combined 24-7 score.
On the mound, Matthew Garrison has put up the best numbers with a 3-0 record and an ERA of 0.00 compared to a team ERA of 2.22. He has walked nine batters and struck out 23 over 14.2 innings.
The Pointers open Western League play April 14 when they host Patrick Henry. Other League foes are St. Augustine, Scripps Ranch, and Cathedral Catholic.
