The 88th Point Loma High School graduation ceremony was bittersweet. The traditional energy of the class was ever-present, with broad smiles and arms raised in celebration as a beach ball or two was floated. Beaming relatives overflowed Pete Ross Stadium, spilling on to Bennie Edens Field, awaiting the calling of their student’s name. The bitter element involved the formal departure of PLHS principal Bobbie Samilson, who has endeared herself to students. In her final role as PLHS principal, she presented diplomas to chants of “Bobbie, Bobbie, Bobbie.” Congratulations, class of 2013! — Essay and photos by Scott Hopkins I?The Beacon
