The Grantville-Allied Gardens Kiwanis Club (www.alliedgardenskiwanis.org) has a couple of dates coming up in April.
On Thursday, April 25, we will be presenting our Class of 2024 Scholarship Awards to deserving recipients from Patrick Henry High School and SDSU.
Come help us celebrate our academic superstars during our meeting at Palisades Church, 5:30 p.m., located at 6130 Birchwood Street (two blocks south of Foster’s Freeze).
At that same meeting, City Councilman Raul Campillo and his office will present a proclamation to our most senior member, Gene Elmore (pictured above), who recently turned 100 years old. Gene, a Navy veteran who served as a pilot in both Europe and Japan during World War II, has been a member of our Kiwanis Club for a record-setting 55 years.
Next, on Saturday, April 27, we are looking for volunteers to help spruce up Mission Trails Regional Park during our “Kiwanis One Day” project, proving that every ONE of us can make a difference.
We’ll meet with Ranger Julie at 8:30 a.m. in the parking lot at Kumeyaay Campground, just off Mission Gorge Road and Junipero Serra Trail (on the Santee side of the mountains). Bring some closed-toes shoes and a positive attitude, as we work together with the Kiwanis Club of Tierrasanta, plus many other volunteers of all ages.
The public is welcome to help us with this project, and meet some great new friends and neighbors in the process.
