Point Loma High School wrestlers are celebrating a CIF San Diego Section championship won last weekend by teammate Keegan Bell. Wrestling at 154 pounds, Bell emerged as the top wrestler in the 21-school CIF Division III finals. He triumphed over the top 24 wrestlers in the division at his weight, all of whom had earned their spot in the tournament at league championships held previously. Bell and the top six finishers at each weight now move on to the upcoming CIF San Diego Section Masters meet, where the top 24 finishers in each of five divisions will square off. From there, only the top three at each weight advance to the state tournament. Masters qualifiers from Point Loma include Chase Harris (fourth place, 115 pounds), Timathy Mansker (fifth, 134 pounds) and Mike Serrano (sixth, 287 pounds), joining the best of five CIF divisions. Jovanny Sanchez (seventh, 222 pounds) fell just short. As a team, the Pointers totaled 22 points to finish sixth in the 21-school division. Earlier in the week, in the City Conference finals, Pointer grapplers made an equally strong showing, qualifying six for the CIF championship meet. Bailey Dugdale (second, 172 pounds), Bell (second, 154 pounds), Chase Scillato (third, 128 pounds), Sanchez (third, 222 pounds), Michael Harris (fourth, 122 pounds) and Serrano (fourth, 287 pounds) earned spots, with the Pointer team finishing fourth among 19 schools.
