Students at a number of schools in the Grossmont Union High School District (GUHSD) staged a peaceful walkout Tuesday afternoon to protest pending layoffs to various staff members. The walkout took place hours before a school board meeting at the Grossmont High School gymnasium.
It was late last month when the GUHSD school board voted to terminate dozens of employees. This would include psychologists, librarians, teachers and vice principals. Only one of five board members voted against the proposed cuts.
GUHSD is reportedly operating with a budget surplus, which makes the proposed layoffs even more upsetting to staff, students, and others in the community.
