The mission of Helix Charter High School is to give all students the skills to be successful in college or whatever other path they choose.
We have high expectations and a rigorous college-prep curriculum but as part of our pyramid of interventions, we employ academic coaches to provide structured tutoring and mentoring within the school day for all students. Academic coaches provide support and resources to students to help level the playing field within a caring and supportive environment.
Our Academic Support Program is unique and not found in most high schools.
We have an impressive team of 40 academic coaches that work in different classrooms around campus every day. It was created 20 years ago when we moved to the 4×4 block schedule. This schedule allows students to take eight classes per year, as opposed to the traditional six classes at most high schools. We utilize this extra time by enrolling students in Academic Support classes.
Over the last two decades, our Academic Support Program has been transformed into an extremely effective system that offers tailored support to students in every grade and at all levels. We believe this program is one of the things that led to us being nationally recognized as a Blue Ribbon school last year, based on our high test scores and performance outcomes.
We are looking for people to join our team as academic coaches. This is an exceptional opportunity for anyone considering a career in teaching, counseling or school social work. Academic coaches receive training each week on current educational topics. The job offers practical experience with classroom management, differentiated instruction, effective feedback and building trustful relationships.
Part time academic coach positions (approximately 26.5 hours/week) are available for the fall term which begins Aug 7. The work schedules are five days a week during school hours. Starting pay is $22.81/hour.
