As part of the Port of San Diego’s Imperial Beach Pier maintenance project, Reyes Construction, Inc. crews will begin replacing 154 of the pier’s 1,500 deck planks on Wednesday, March 26. The work will take place on weekdays between 7 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. The installation team intends to keep the pier open but to ensure safety at and around the active work zone, pedestrian traffic will be redirected around and sometimes stopped for several minutes at a time. The Port will provide additional updates as needed.
The deck work is anticipated to be completed in April. Additional improvements are planned in the coming weeks, including electric utility upgrades, with details to be announced as they become available.
The $2.6 million project is dedicated to preserving the pier’s functionality and ensuring ongoing maintenance. It began in November 2024 when crews replaced two pilings to maintain the structural integrity of the iconic pier, ensuring it can be enjoyed by visitors and the community for generations to come. In early March, a new water line was installed. The project is anticipated to be completed in summer 2025.
