Thank you to the Del Cerro community. Membership in the Friends of Del Cerro (friendsofdelcerro.org) continues to grow.
One community driven project is to improve safety, and overnight access to the two park areas on the top of Del Cerro on either side of Pasatiempo. There is a 4-acre dedicated open space park on the west side of the street and a 10-acre park area on the east side. The 10-acre site includes approximately five acres of an environmentally sensitive area.
Working with concerned residents, Park and Recreation staff and Councilmember Raul Campillo and his staff, an initial plan is being proposed for new signage to allow for enforcement of littering and loitering ordinances. If you have been to this area recently, you saw graffiti and trash throughout the area.
By the time you read this article, the proposed new signs were an action item that will have been voted on by the Allied Gardens Recreational Advisory Council. Their vote will be forwarded to the City’s Park and Recreation Board for a vote as an action item at their meeting later this month.
For several years the Friends of Del Cerro’s “Enhance Del Cerro Committee” has been working toward establishing a Maintenance Assessment District for our neighborhood, having been inspired by the success of the improvements made in neighborhoods like Kensington, La Jolla, Little Italy, Hillcrest and Talmadge. There are already 64 Maintenance Assessment Districts within the city of San Diego.
Creating this district is one of the very few ways an older neighborhood can be improved, as we would receive benefits beyond what the city is capable of offering.
The Maintenance Assessment District boundaries for Del Cerro largely follow the Del Cerro proper area. All pro property owners in the designated area are eligible to serve on the “Enhance Del Cerro Committee”. The Enhance Del Cerro map can be found at Enhancedelcerro.org, where you may also review the Draft Engineers Report and share your thoughts by taking the survey which is also on the Enhance Del Cerro webpage.
A letter which will be sent to all Del Cerro property owners is currently being printed.
It describes the work that has been done and includes a survey requesting all property owners to indicate their priorities for several proposed projects to be accomplished by the Enhance Del Cerro Maintenance Assessment District.
In addition to asking our property owners to indicate their priority for the primary projects listed as the result of the prior surveys over the last several years, there is space within the survey to list any key city-related enhancements to Del Cerro you believe should also be addressed.
These improvements are not only esthetic, they, deter crime, create a safer community and improve our property values. Please consider joining us. We need volunteers to help us improve our community. Let us know you are interested in joining us. Go to the Enhancedelcerro.org website and click on the “Get Involved” button.
Please continue to send us your city related “Get It Done” requests. We are happy to submit them for you.
