The Behavioral Health Committee of Jewish Family Service of San Diego will host its annual mental health awareness support luncheon on Tuesday, May 12 from 11:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Hyatt Regency La Jolla, 3777 La Jolla Village Drive. This year’s theme, “A Battle Against Time,” will feature Greg O’Brien, author of “On Pluto: Inside the Mind OF Alzheimer’s.” O’Brien, an award-winning political writer and investigative reporter, was diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer’s in 2009 after losing his mother and grandfather to the disease. O’Brien decided to tackle his diagnosis and imminent decline by writing frankly about the journey. His book offers an illuminating account of the strategies, faith and humor needed to fight this disease. O’Brien writes about living with Alzheimer’s and sustaining hope in the face of inevitable change. The Behavioral Health Committee supports Jewish Family Service of San Diego in its efforts to provide behavioral health services that foster self-sufficiency and community engagement for individuals and their families through education and outreach. Since 1918, Jewish Family Service of San Diego has been a community resource for individuals and families in times of need. Reservations for the luncheon will be accepted until May 5. Tickets are $48 prior to May 1 and $55 thereafter. For more information and to purchase tickets, visit jfssd.org/pluto or call (858) 637-3231.
