The body of a 56-year-old man who died during a possible diving accident off Mission Beach during the Fourth of July weekend will be autopsied soon to determine exactly how he died, said the county Medical Examiner’s Office. The victim was identified by coroner’s officials as 56-year-old James Daniel Kinane. Lifeguard officials said Kinane was participating in a diving venture July 2 down to the nearby Yukon wreck. Kinane reportedly jumped into the water and apparently had trouble with his gear. Other divers reportedly tried to come to Kinane’s rescue, but the victim lost consciousness, according to officials. It is not yet clear whether the fatal dive resulted from faulty gear equipment or a possible medical problem. He was pronounced dead at the dock. — Staff
