A judge has declined to set any bail for a man who is charged with punching a man in Ocean Beach so hard that he never regained consciousness and died three months later in a hospital.
Andrew Phillip Restrepo, 33, of San Diego, was arrested Aug. 27 in downtown San Diego by San Diego Police in the Aug. 5, 2023, death of Sean Ellis Glenn, 35, of Apple Valley.
Glenn was standing on the sidewalk in the 5000 block of Newport Avenue when Restrepo walked up and allegedly punched him so hard that he fell and became unconscious on May 10, 2023, at 10:51 p.m. Glenn was rushed to a hospital where he died three months later.
Restrepo was charged with felony assault upon Glenn on May 10 and that he “became comatose due to brain injury,” according to the charge.
Restrepo is also charged with felony assault upon another man on May 23, 2023, aboard a MTS bus in the Midway area in which a man was punched. Police have not released a motive in either attack.
Restrepo pleaded not guilty to all charges when he was arraigned last month before San Diego Superior Court Judge John Pro. Another judge on Sept. 10 scheduled a preliminary hearing for Jan. 27, 2025.
A bail review hearing is set for Oct. 14 when Restrepo’s lawyer seeks a lower bail set and may give some information about Restrepo.
The police homicide division used video images of the assault and the attacker and arrested Restrepo after an investigation. He remains in the South Bay Detention Facility.
Glenn worked as a facilities supervisor in the computer industry.
