A 20-year-old man jumped from the 15th floor of the La Jolla Marriott on Oct. 2, and officials are calling the incident a suicide, said Alan Alvarez, a San Diego Police Department public information officer. Shortly after 10 a.m., Alvarez said, the man checked into the hotel, located at 4240 La Jolla Village Drive. Shortly after 2 p.m., a guest of the hotel walked onto a nearby hotel room balcony to find the man lying on a rooftop 11 stories below the man’s room, an official at the San Diego Medical Examiner’s Office said. The guest called hotel management and hotel management called 911. The Medical Examiner’s Office is still performing toxicology tests on the body. Police said there was a suicide note found in the man’s room.
