Mission Bay High School’s award-winning music program has announced the Meraki Concert Series. The series is set to start on Feb. 22 and go through May to support the school’s thriving music programs and the community.
Produced by the students as part of the MBHS Music Business Program, the Meraki Concert Series – in partnership with Meraki Event Space and Lounge and the San Diego Yokohama Sister City Society – is a music series that promises performances by established and emerging jazz artists.
Hosted by the newly-opened Meraki Event Space and Lounge located in South Park at 1648 30th St., the concert series will kick off on Thursday, Feb. 22, with the MBHS student band followed by music from the critically acclaimed and San Diego-based musical collective Euphoria Brass Band.
“Through the Meraki Concert Series, we are not just presenting music – we are creating an experience crafted by the incredible hard work of our students. This concert series reflects the dedication of Mission Bay’s music program to inspire, entertain, and showcase the rich diversity in the jazz genre,” said Jean-Paul Balmat, the school’s music director. “We are so thankful to Meraki and the talented artists who are giving their time and talents to help make this possible.”
The spring jazz concert series includes an all-star jazz lineup: Euphoria Brass Band (Feb. 22), Gilbert Castellanos (March 21), Holly Hofmann (April 25), and Peter Sprague and Leonard Patton (May 30). Each concert will open with a performance by a Mission Bay High School ensemble.
General admission is $20 per person via the website or at the door; student tickets are $15 with a promo code. Reservations-only dining begins at 6 p.m. with the headlining act starting at 7:30 p.m. To reserve a dining experience and purchase tickets, visit merakiconcerts.com.
The Meraki Concert Series provides students with a unique work-study experience, offering real-world opportunities in the business end of the music industry. MBHS students will manage every detail of the event, from setup to breakdown, venue management, promotions, booking of artists, and securing sponsorships. The students are actively looking for sponsors to support the business program and live music in San Diego. More information can be found at missionbaymusic.com.
