Mission Bay has started off the season with victories over Christian High by a score of 31-19 on Aug. 17, followed by a 28-21 home opener win over University City on Aug. 25.
“I feel we have played pretty well to start,” said head coach Greg Tate.
The game against University City was dominated by Mission Bay in the first half on both sides of the ball as the Bucs scored two touchdowns in the second quarter while the defense shut out the visitors on offense. The second half was a different matter as University City cut the lead to 14-6 before the Bucs were able to hold on in the fourth quarter managing to score two more touchdowns.

“We kind of lost focus there in the third quarter, but managed to lock it back down in the fourth,” Tate added.
The game against Christian was similar. The Bucs had a dominant first-half outscoring the visitors 24-7 in the first two quarters and were able to find the end zone in the second half to put the game on ice.
The win over University City also avenged the 42-31 defeat that Mission Bay suffered last season at the hand of the Centurions as they finished the regular season with a record of 7-4 followed by a playoff victory over Montgomery and a loss to Fallbrook.
Among the standout players so far is wide receiver David Maier, who will have a larger role in the offensive now that the team is without the services of wide receiver Jack Ryan. Ryan was among four Bucs players who took part in the ninth annual SDFNL Showcase game held last December.
