Ska fanatics will want to check out Nothing Special, an eight-piece combo based at UCSD. With Lizzie Shipton on lead vocals, the band knocks out excellent originals in the rock-steady tradition, certain to please fans of such groups as the English Beat or The Untouchables. Best of all, Nothing Special has a fun mix of covers that range from film songs like “Let It Go,” from “Frozen,” to unique mash-ups of tunes like “House of the Rising Sun” and “Stairway to Heaven.” Nothing Special is the opposite of their name; they have an ingredient in their music often missing from many artists – fun!
