Motown fans won’t want to miss the Blue Breeze Band’s performance at Kate Sessions Park on July 24 at 4 p.m. The opening show in the annual Concerts on the Green series, the band does include rock in its set — from the Doobie Brothers to the Rolling Stones — and also excels at blues and jazz standards. However, its forte is in classic 1960s or 1970s soul and R&B. With one of the most impressive repertoires of any local band, this combo can go deep into a classic performers music. Where most bands can do a Marvin Gaye tune or two, Blue Breeze has five, plus a duet with Tammi Terrell in its song list. Similarly, with Earth Wind & Fire, there’s seven to choose from — and so on. Best of all, the band plays with a real passion for the material. With one of the most scenic locations in the city as a backdrop and the great music, this show is just about the perfect way to spend a summer afternoon in San Diego.
