Lifeguards responded to a report Friday, Aug. 25, that the dead body was floating in at the foot of Narragansett Avenue, just south of the Ocean Beach pier.
The body was in the surf, washing toward the rocky reef shelf. The male body looked as if it had been in the water for a while, as it was pretty decomposed, said San Diego lifeguard Lt. John Greenhaulgh.
Lifeguards pulled the body out of the water to a dry area, then called the police, who responded quickly, Greenhaulgh said.
