After an extensive application and interview process involving staff and community members, a new principal has been appointed to the vacant position at Point Loma High School.
David Jaffe (above), a veteran educator and administrator, will assume leadership of the 98-year-old school and begin working on campus as soon as he and the school district human resources staff determine a starting date.
Jaffe has previously served as principal at Torrey Pines and Vista high schools and was chosen as the founding principal at Canyon Crest Academy.
His 30-year career includes the director of curriculum and assessment as well as the superintendent of the Rancho Santa Fe Elementary District. Prior to his administrative duties, Jaffe taught middle school, coached high school baseball, and mentored new teachers.
His education includes a bachelor’s degree from UCLA, a teaching credential from USD, a School Administration Services credential, and a master’s degree in Educational Leadership and Administration, both from Cal State San Marcos.
Erin Richison, Ed.D., senior executive director, of the Office of Graduation made the announcement, saying “I sincerely thank everyone who participated and supported this hiring process by helping develop the site criteria and/or sitting on the Community Interview Panel. Together, we found the perfect match for Point Loma High School.”
Richison noted Jaffe is a strong instructional leader who has worked in schools with diverse populations. He has worked extensively to build collaborative communities where the staff, students, and parents’ voices are heard and valued.
“He prioritizes instruction and ensures students have access to rigorous curriculum and instruction,” she wrote. “Mr. Jaffe understands the needs of the students of San Diego and is committed to supporting the Point Loma community. Coupled with his collaborative leadership approach, he will provide valuable insights and strategies for the school’s continued growth and improvement.”
Jaffe and his wife of 26 years grew up in San Diego, both attending San Diego public schools. They have two daughters, a college sophomore and a high school junior. He spends his free time going to the gym, playing pickleball, golfing, and spending time with family and friends.
