Point Loma High School’s new principal has been on campus meeting and speaking with teachers before his actual starting date.
David Jaffe (rhymes with “coffee”) spoke to the entire staff on Aug. 16, the day teachers reported for the 2023-24 school year. He has spent additional days at the school as his actual starting date was being determined by San Diego Unified School District’s Human Resources Dept. Jaffe was hoping to begin before the scheduled first day of classes on Aug. 21, which was postponed until Aug. 22 because of concerns related to Tropical Storm Hilary.
In a recent letter to the community, Jaffe told of his immediate plans.
“Dear Point Loma High School Community,
I hope you are enjoying the remaining days of summer and looking forward to the upcoming academic year.
I am honored to write to you as the newly appointed principal of Point Loma High School. Point Loma High School has been a beacon of academic, athletic, and creative excellence for a century. The school’s history has been built upon the unwavering commitment of its dedicated staff, the curiosity and determination of its students, and the consistent support from parents and the broader community. As I take on this leadership role, I am humbled and inspired by the work ahead.
I am eager to learn more about the experiences, traditions, and stories that make Point Loma not just a school, but a thriving community. In the coming weeks, I will set aside time to speak with and learn from staff, student groups, boosters, and leadership from the various school committees.
The strength of any school is its staff, and I am genuinely delighted about the opportunity to work alongside the highly experienced, innovative, and dedicated team at Point Loma. By working together, we can continue to create an enriching environment where every student feels valued, challenged, and inspired.
Over the coming months, I look forward to getting to know each of you. I am ready to listen to your stories, understand your concerns, and celebrate your successes. My door is open for you as I invite your ideas, suggestions, and thoughts as we embark on this journey together.
My official start date has yet to be established, but the goal is to begin sometime before the start of school on Aug. 21. I am incredibly excited about this new chapter and deeply committed to serving the Pointer community.”
