Mission Beach community cleanup planned for Sat.
City crews will be rolling down Strandway and Bayside Lane in Mission Beach to haul away junk furniture, e-waste and trash during the annual community cleanup Saturday, June 14.
Beginning at 8 a.m., the Environmental Services Department will pick up appliances, carpeting, electronics (TVs, computer monitors, VCRs, fax machines, etc.), furniture, lawn mowers (free of oil and gas), mattresses, metals, wood and yard trimmings (bundled and tied, not exceeding 50 pounds nor over 6 feet long) set out along Strandway and Bayside Lane.
Unacceptable items for pickup include all light bulbs, fluorescent tubes, dirt and construction debris, tires and hazardous waste such as motor oil, paint and batteries.

Cyclist injured running red light, gets BUI charge
A man riding a bike was hit by a Jeep Cherokee after he ran a red light at Fanuel Street and Grand Avenue Friday, June 6, at 1:59 a.m.
The cyclist suffered a fractured leg and multiple facial fractures.
According to SDPD Sgt. Jeff Fellows, the cyclist had been drinking and will be charged for biking under the influence.
Santa Clara Rec hosts a feast of flapjacks
The staff at the Santa Clara Recreation Center is inviting the public to join them for their annual Pancake Breakfast on Saturday, June 14 from 8 to 11 a.m.
On the menu are pancakes and sausage or bacon, coffee and juice. The cost is $3 per person and $1 for children under 5 years old.
“It really supports the community and providing recreational opportunities for the youth,” said rec center director Toni Crockett.
In addition, the center is hosting a water safety contest for the students of Crown Point Elementary School. All participants will receive a participation award and winners will receive a U.S. savings bond reward. Presentation of awards will take place at the breakfast.
The center will also present the school with a collection of new books for its library. Book donations will also be accepted during the breakfast.

SDG&E holds light bulb exchange on Tuesday
San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E) is hosting a light bulb exchange at Kate Sessions Memorial Park, Tuesday, June 17, from 4 to 7 p.m.
San Diego residents can trade up to five 75-watt or higher incandescent bulbs for new, energy efficient fluorescent bulbs.
SDG&E will also exchange up to two halogen lamps for two new energy-efficient torchiere lamps.
To receive the bulbs and/or lamps, residents must show a valid California ID and a copy of their SDG&E bill.

PBTC will discuss beach staffing at June meeting
Representatives from the San Diego Police Department, Fire & Rescue and Lifeguard Services along with Councilman Kevin Faulconer will be discussing summer staffing at the Pacific Beach Town Council’s general monthly meeting Wednesday, June 18, at the Earl & Birdie Taylor Library, at 6:30 p.m.
