The Oct. 5 meeting of La Mesa-El Cajon AAUW will feature, Jeanne Weider, a representative from the local League of Women Voters. The topic is Explaining the Ballot Measures. The meeting this month will be held at the La Mesa Police Department’s Community room.
According to the League’s website: “The League of Women Voters (LWV) is an American nonprofit, nonpartisan political organization. Founded in 1920, its ongoing major activities include registering voters, providing voter information, boosting voter turnout and advocating for voting rights.”
Additionally, members will have the opportunity to register for AAUW’s Two Minute Activist program. By joining AAUW advocates in the fight for equal pay, equity in education, paid leave, protections against sexual harassment and more, members can sign up to get regular alerts on when and how to engage, including sending letters to legislators, writing letters to the editor and timely calls to action.
The meetings are open to the public. Check the branch website for further details at AAUW La Mesa-El Cajon (CA) Branch.
La Mesa-El Cajon Branch of American Association of University Women (AAUW) has been engaged in “equity for all” efforts since the 1950’s and is one of the largest branches in the state. AAUW empowers women and girls by advocating for more women in leadership positions, closing the gender pay gap and preventing sexual harassment and discrimination. They support girls entering STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) careers. They also use research, education, and advocacy at the national, state, and branch levels to accomplish these goals.
