You can start your spring cleaning by supporting a great cause, the Ocean Beach Woman’s Club’s annual rummage sale on Saturday, March 21 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 2160 Bacon St.
The club is accepting quality donated items to sell, especially new and gently used items such as furniture, jewelry, housewares, books, small appliances, electronics, kitchenware, sporting goods, tools, kids items and gardening equipment.
Donations may be dropped off at the club on March 19 and 20 from 4 to 7 p.m.
“The club looks forward to all of OB’s support,” said the Woman’s Club on its website at www.obwomansclub.org. “Proceeds will go towards various OB community projects, as well as to improvements to their building.”
Founded in 1924, Ocean Beach Woman’s Club is 91 years old this year. One of the oldest civic groups in the city of San Diego, the club has been instrumental in paving OB streets, installing sewers, securing street lights, acquiring an OB Rec Center and a public library, securing lifeguards year around, planting trees, shrubs, and flowers, as well as having served as a recreation center for servicemen during WWII.
Some of the latest projects OB Woman’s Club has been involved with include: OBWC Community Gardens; established two college scholarships for two former foster students who’ve “aged out of the San Diego Foster Care System”; helped support the OB fireworks; held an open house for the OB Town Council holiday fundraiser; hosted OBMA’s mixer for OB businesses plus OBMA’s Holiday Food and Toy Drive; held beach clean ups as well as a 90th birthday party for OBWC during which all of OB was invited to help celebrate.
The club is also proud to have collaborated with other community groups such as OBMA BID, Ocean Beach Town Council and OB Historical Society.
Groups benefiting from OBWC’s largesse have included San Diego Youth Services?, Loaves and Fishes?, Polinsky Children’s Center?, Rady Children’s Hospital?, Promises 2 Kids and Muscular Dystrophy.
The club also has an educational component.
“We are presently offering line dancing and art classes just to name a few,” said the club’s website.
