After a two-week hiatus, the San Diego Wave looks to get back in the win column at 7 p.m. on Friday at Snapdragon Stadium as it takes on the top-seeded Orlando Pride. San Diego is coming off a hard-fought scoreless road draw versus rival Angel City FC on May 23.
Orlando is one of two NWSL teams that is still undefeated and come in having won eight games in a row including a 2-1 home victory over the Portland Thorns on May 24. The Wave and Pride last faced each other on April 19 at Inter&Co Stadium with Orlando coming out with the 1-0 victory courtesy of a 25th-minute goal by midfielder Summer Yates.
San Diego sits as the ninth-seed due to goal differential but has played only 10 games along with Angel City, Racing Louisville, and Gotham FC. The team, led by head coach Casey Stoney, has given up nine goals this season but has scored just nine goals while Orlando has a plus-10 goal differential, which is second-best only behind the Kansas City Current.
The Wave expects to have the entire roster available for the match versus Orlando with all its internationals back and no players on the injury list. The Wave will go on a three-game road trip after tonight to face the Washington Spirit, Gotham FC, and Houston Dash before returning home to face the Chicago Red Stars on June 28.
