
There will be plenty of free, family-friendly fun on the beaches and along the boardwalk at this year’s Pacific BeachFest, which takes place 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct.7. This year is also the 20th anniversary for popular beach party. The evening before the big event, come out for the second annual Pacific BeachFest Beer Cup competition from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 6. Local favorite Karl Strauss won the inaugural event and this year face competition from Belching Beaver, Amplified Ale Works, Iron Fire, Coronado Brewing Co., PB Alehouse, Green Flash/Alpine, Mike Hess, and Abnormal Beer Co. Action starts early on the sandy shoreline with sports tournaments, including the Pro-Am Beach Volleyball Tournament (8 a.m.), Vavi 4Sum Social Volleyball (9 a.m.), and Revolt Summer Series Surf competition (the surf competition has been postponed) on the south side of Crystal Pier. The Pacific BeachFest 5K will hold an early wave (8 a.m.) and a main wave (10 a.m.) run down the beach. After a the run, there will be yoga on the beach. Throughout the action-packed day, thousands of Pacific BeachFest goers can listen to live music on three stages. The Main Stage will feature world beat dance music, the Community Stage will feature the best local talent, and the Grand Stage, in the San Diego Craft Beer Garden, will have the hottest DJs and reggae. Shop and browse among the dozens of fine arts and crafts displays and visit the many eclectic shops and popular restaurants in this laid-back beachside community at the PB Merchant Sidewalk Sale along the boardwalk and Garnet Avenue. BeachFest-goers will be able to sample fish tacos from PB Fish Shop, Sandbar Sports Grill, Baja Beach Cafe/ Cabo Cantina/ PB Cantina, Pacific Beach Shore Club, Cerveza Jack’s, and The Local at the 10th annual “Best at the Beach Fish Taco” challenge and then vote for their favorite one. The Taste of PB Food Court provides a variety of Pacific Beach’s finest restaurants serving up tasty cuisines. While taking in the ocean view, wash down those tacos at the third annual San Diego Craft Beer Garden and taste beers and from local breweries. Pacific BeachFest is a party for all ages featuring Kids Action Alley where the youngest dudes and dudettes will be kept busy with beachside rides as well as other free fun games and activities and arts and crafts.
