Prevent Drowning Foundation of San Diego has announced that on Tuesday, July 30, San Diego Junior Lifeguards, parents, and the public are invited to join the first Scripps Pier Jump fundraiser. The San Diego Junior Lifeguards’ initial jump off the Scripps Pier occurred earlier this month. This jump, like the previous ones held on the Ocean Beach Pier, will allow parents and public participants to jump as well – for a donation. For more information, visit preventdrowningfoundation.org.
This fundraiser is the only time jumping from the Scripps Pier is allowed. Space is limited for each jump session (8 a.m. and noon). Proceeds from this event benefit the Prevent Drowning Foundation of San Diego’s efforts to provide SDJG scholarships and free swimming lessons for youth without access in San Diego. Donations will help fund scholarships for a San Diego Junior Lifeguard. Proceeds not used for SDJG scholarships will fund swim lessons – every additional $50 will provide 10 lessons for one child.
JUMP INFORMATION
• $200 minimum donation with ticket purchase (each participant).
• Limited tickets available.
• Ticket sales are open to SDJG parents and to the public now. Online ticket sales will close at 5 p.m. on July 29. The remaining tickets will be available on a first-come, first-served basis at the event on July 30.

Parent jumping with their junior guards: After check-in and safety meeting, meet your child’s group at the gate to the pier 10 minutes before the jump time.
Because the pier is not open to the public, only junior lifeguards and jumpers who have donated to the fundraiser will be allowed on the pier. Do not attempt to enter the pier gate for any reason. Do not park anywhere on the Scripps Institute of Oceanography campus. Do not enter the SIO campus to get closer to the pier. Parents and observers should watch their child from the shore or from the water (paddlers, should stay clear of the jump zone). Also, stay clear of lifeguard trucks that will be on-site at the base of the pier to monitor the jump and safety operations.
