La Jolla Playhouse raised $1.5 million at its annual gala fundraiser in support of the Playhouse’s education and outreach initiatives and its new play development programs. “This year’s gala offered both a forward-looking celebration of our adventurous upcoming season, as well as a tribute to Debby Jacobs, who has chaired the playhouse’s gala for 15 years, providing invaluable support for our vital education and new play development efforts,” said artistic director Christopher Ashley.
Since Jacobs’ work with the gala began in 1999, the Playhouse has commissioned 33 new plays and musicals, produced 38 world premieres, hosted more than 100 readings and workshops and has sent 18 productions to Broadway.
