Playing in a major league stadium is every young athlete’s dream, and for varsity baseball players at Point Loma High School, that dream is about to come true. The Pointers have been selected to play in downtown’s Petco Park, home of the San Diego Padres, as part of a Friday, April 19 tripleheader of prep games. Taking the field at 1 p.m. for the day’s first game, PLHS will be facing La Jolla High in a league game that is part of Western League standings. Tickets for the game are priced at $15 and $25 and include a ticket to return to Petco Park on May 3 to see the major league Padres battle their National League rival Arizonas Diamondbacks in a 7 p.m. encounter. Tickets for the event are available at all Pointer varsity baseball games or through the school’s financial office during regular school hours. Rosemary Avalos also has tickets available at (619) 339-1042, as does Kathy Seymour at [email protected]. Later games at Petco Park on April 19 involve Escondido vs. Mission Hills at 4 p.m. and West Hills vs. Valhalla at 7 p.m. The Padres will be on an early-season road trip in San Francisco on this day. Pointer bats are beginning to come alive after the team was shut out four times in preseason and tournament play. The team improved to an overall record of 5-5 after downing Olympian High School 8-4 in its most recent game. The La Jolla High Vikings currently stand at 4-3, with a 10-1 win over Olympian last month.
