PREBYS CHAIR CONCERT
Rand Steiger, the current holder of the Chair, will perform at 7 p.m., Jan. 29 at the Conrad Prebys Concert Hall at the University of California San Diego campus. Karis, Schick, Steiger, and Terrazas will all perform compositions by Rand Steiger, Anqi Liu, and Alex Stephenson. The performance will be conducted by Steven Schick. KLEZMER BUENOS AIRES: THE LERNER-MOGUILEVSKY DUO
Direct from Argentina, this brilliant duo presents a stellar blend of klezmer, Argentinean folk music, tango and jazz improvisation at 7: 30 p.m., Jan. 29 at the Lawrence Family Jewish Community Center, 4126 Executive Drive. Join us as we experience flutes, bagpipe, duduk (wind instrument), clarinet, bass clarinet, soprano sax, harmonica, accordion, piano and percussion that makes them sound more like an orchestra than a duet. ITALIAN FILM FESTIVAL
The La Jolla Community Center will present its annual Italian Film Festival with showings on Jan. 30 (Maccheroni), Feb. 6 (Mediterraneo), and Feb. 13 (Bread and Tulips). There will be a social at 6:30 p.m. and films begin at 7 p.m. All films will have English subtitles. Tickets are $5 at the door and drinks available for purchase. PUPPING SEASON
Join the Sierra Club Seal Society docents for an illustrated talk about harbor seal and sea lion life patterns at 2 p.m. Feb. 1 starting at the Mangelsen’s Images of Nature Gallery, 7916 Girard Ave. The docents will then led you on a short walk to Casa Beach to possibly see a birth and or a nursing mother and pup.
