On July 4, board members of the Friends of Del Cerro continued their community involvement and community service by staffing the information booth throughout the day for the communities, annual July 4th Lake Murray Fireworks and MusicFest.
In our previous article we updated the status of the All Peoples Church property and stated the church purchased a church in La Mesa. We received inquiries as to how we knew they had purchased a church in La Mesa. Their new location in La Mesa is 8262 Allison Avenue. This information was verified by a key staff member of the All Peoples Church.
District seven Councilmember Raul Campillo and his family, who are Del Cerro residents, attended the July 4th event at Lake Murray. He addressed everyone attending the event and commented on the recent budget passed by the City Council for the 2025 fiscal year.
During his remarks, Campillo referenced miles of roads were resurfaced in the Navajo communities this past fiscal year and more will be resurfaced in the current fiscal year which began July 1. Campillo also stated he secured the additional funding for our police and fire rescue departments.
In addition, he mentioned he was able to secure 4.7 million dollars for the next phase leading to the construction of the new San Carlos Library! U.S. Congresswoman Sarah Jacobs also attended the July 4th Lake Murray Fireworks and MusicFest event.
The Friends of Del Cerro would like to thank all the members of the Lake Murray July 4th Fireworks and MusicFest committee for their continual year-round commitment so we can all enjoy this great event.
There is a possibility this year’s event will be the last because of new requirements from the State of California. If you would like to offer your support in the effort to keep the event going, please go to lakemurrayfireworks.org and scroll down to “Be the first to know”, and enter your information so we may contact you.

The massive amount of graffiti on the buildings on the south side of Del Cerro Blvd. has finally been painted over (See top photo) by the property owner and most of the weeds adjacent to the sidewalk have been removed. Let’s hope the property continues to be maintained at least at the current level.
The Friends of Del Cerro (FODC) board of directors would again like to thank all of our new members and volunteers who signed up during the month of July.
Please continue to submit your city-related concerns through the city’s Get It Done APP. You may also contact FODC, and we will submit your item on your behalf.
