I took this picture of Diego’s Cafe y Cantina on July 21, 1981, not long after it replaced Aljones Mexican Restaurant. As a matter of fact, Al Jones was still living upstairs. PB Bar & Grill has occupied the location for many years. Don’t recognize the house in the foreground? It was dozed to create a parking lot for Diego’s. What happened? Bob Gibson came back to PB to play Mission Bay Golf Course with his brother and was shocked!! The putting green and waterfall have been cemented over. As a personal note, I still miss Victor’s, the restaurant with a view of the waterfall. Bob wants to know if anyone has documented the history of the course. Everything I said last issue about Zanzibar and its predecessors was true — except for the address. It should have said 976 Garnet Ave., not 876.
