Have you heard the buzz about the new restaurant in town? It’s the talk of Southern Biscuit lovers.
Rise Southern Biscuits and Righteous Chicken has come to San Diego and landed in the SDSU area.
The biscuits are light, fluffy, and tasty, just like your grandma used to make.
According to King Arthur Baking:
To Southerners, biscuits are the bread of choice while to Northerners cold sliced bread is the popular choice. The story goes that southern flour milled in the South was milled from low-protein soft wheat, which lacks the content necessary to make great bread but is the ideal flour for biscuits. This resulted in biscuits that are feather-light and tender and quickly became the dominant bread of the region.
Rise is a different concept of a restaurant.
You won’t be greeted by an order taker here. You must place your order online or at their kiosk. You will be given an estimated time that your order will be ready. A computer monitor on the wall will notify you the status of what is being cooked and what is ready. When your order is ready, you will get a text or email notice stating it’s ready. You go to the lockers and look for your name. Inside will be a bag with your order. Press a button and the door opens, you grab your meal and go. If you want to dine-in, there is a limited amount of tables, but the restaurant is relying on to-go dining.
Open daily from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. you can enjoy breakfast or lunch.
The menu is centered on the soft and fluffy buttermilk biscuit. Build your own egg sandwich with a choice of country ham, smoked bacon, pork sausage, or a veggie sausage, an egg scrambled, fried or soft-fried, and a variety of cheeses. Choose either a buttermilk biscuit or a glazed blueberry biscuit.
The Righteous Chicken sandwich is where it all started.
Their crispy, tenderized buttermilk-brined chicken topped with pickles and their signature “Boom-Boom” sauce. Some additional options are hot honey butter, which is a perfect combination of chili pepper heat and golden sweet honey. Or topped with their house-made, three-cheese Southern pimento chees and Applewood-smoked bacon.
If you prefer eating your meal with a fork, they have boxes. The Chicken Box is chicken fingers, served with a biscuit, a dipping sauce and a choice of a side.
Lunch options are Guacamole Smash, which features guacamole, tomato, fired egg and “Boom-Boom” sauce. How about other Southern favorite – Fried Green Tomatoes with three-cheese southern pimento cheese. Or if you like Nashville Hot Chicken try their chicken sandwich tossed in Nashville hot sauce and topped with pickles.
Save room for the seasoned tater tots or Jumbo cheddar tots.
