The 17th Annual San Diego County Harvey Milk Diversity Breakfast returns on Friday, May 16 at the Town and Country Resort in Mission Valley, bringing together LGBTQ+ community members and allies from across the region to honor the life and legacy of civil rights icon Harvey Milk.
Doors open at 7 a.m., with the program starting promptly at 7:45 a.m. and concluding by 9:30 a.m. Tickets are available online at: sdharveymilkbreakfast.com.
This year’s breakfast will shine a spotlight on individuals and organizations making a significant impact in the fight for equality and justice:
*Oregon Governor Tina Kotek will be honored with the Harvey Milk Lifetime Achievement Award for her decades of public service and leadership as the first openly lesbian governor in the United States.
*California Legislative LGBTQ Caucus will receive the Harvey Milk Leadership Award for its advocacy and policy work advancing LGBTQ+ rights across California and beyond.
*Officer Lisa Hartman, a longtime community liaison with the San Diego Police Department, will be recognized with the Assistant Chief Phil Collum Activist Award for her efforts to foster connection, trust, and understanding between law enforcement and the LGBTQ+ community.
Led by an all-volunteer team, the Harvey Milk Diversity Breakfast is co-chaired by Rickie Brown, Laurie Black, Bruce Abrams, and Ryan Bedrosian, with support from community champion Nicole Murray Ramirez and a planning committee of local leaders and advocates.
“Each year, this event brings together people from all walks of life to celebrate our shared commitment to justice, visibility, and community,” said Nicole Murray Ramirez, founder and community leader. “We invite everyone to join us as we honor these changemakers who embody Harvey Milk’s legacy of hope and action.”
