The San Diego Mojo avenged its 3-2 loss from Saturday by returning the favor to the Omaha Supernovas with the same score on Tuesday night at Viejas Arena.
After dropping the first set to Omaha 25-19, Mojo came back with a fury winning the second and third sets 25-17 and 25-22 before dropping the fourth set 25-21. It all came down to a fifth and deciding set with San Diego coming out on top 15-8.
The victory was a total team effort led by the 27 points of Thomas Ailara-Temi and the 18 points of Johnson Willow. The win improved the Mojo to 8-9 and solidified its hold on the fourth seed creating a little bit of breathing room between itself and the Orlando Valkyries (7-12) along with the Columbus Fury (6-11). The top-four teams make the playoffs with the Mojo still having a realistic chance at overtaking the Supernovas (12-7) as the second-seed seed and mathematically alive to finish on top of the regular season standings if the Atlanta Vibe (17-5) somehow falter in its remaining schedule.
The Mojo has won five of its last seven games and has two more matches remaining in the current homestand against the Vegas Thrill on Friday, April 26, and the Orlando Valkyries on Monday, April 29. After that, the Mojo will have five games left with its only remaining one at Viejas Arena during that span coming on May 7 against the Columbus Fury.
If the season ended today, the Wave would travel to face the Atlanta Vibe who they are winless against in all four meetings this season and have yet to take a set versus the team from Georgia.
