San Diego Pride Honors Sen. Christine Kehoe
San Diego Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender Pride recently honored state Sen. Christine Kehoe with a Lifetime Achievement Award for her vital role in helping to rebuild the organization.
Kehoe is the fifth recipient of the award, which was first bestowed on Nicole Murray Ramirez in 1994. Other recipients include Jeri Dilno and Doug Moore in 1999 and partners Dr. Al Best and Eduardo Moncada in 2004.
“I’m deeply honored for being recognized by San Diego LGBT Pride for my involvement in restoring the group’s proud legacy,” said Kehoe. “San Diego LGBT Pride has evolved into an integral part of our region and I commend the organization for celebrating our community’s history and giving back so generously throughout the years.”
After the organization experienced a series of ups and downs, in 1989 Kehoe co-chaired a new Pride committee that became instrumental in streamlining the organization’s finances, increasing its budget and hiring the first executive director, according to a press release issued by Pride. Kehoe is credited with bringing professional renewal to the group and helping it grow successfully. “Senator Kehoe’s leadership and belief in Pride, along with her inherent strength and courage, created the mainframe foundation of the organization as we know it today,” said Pride board chairman Phillip Princetta.
San Diego Pride is a community enhancement organization that fosters pride in and respect for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender communities. The group will host the 36th annual Pride celebration July 17-18, 2010. For more information, call (619) 297-7683 or visit www.SanDiegoPride.org.
