The Wave, after a tough 2-1 defeat at Orlando two weeks ago, looks to rebound at 7 p.m. on Saturday, April 12, at Snapdragon Stadium as Kansas City visits San Diego.
The Wave is the fifth seed, with four points over its first three games, led by the efforts of forwards María Sánchez and Delphine Cascarino. Kansas City has nine points, but it has a slightly worse goal differential than the first-place Orlando Pride.
Kansas City and San Diego faced each other twice last season, with the Current winning both meetings by a combined 6-2 scoreline. San Diego has scored the third-most goals this season, just behind Orlando and Kansas City.
The Current recently had a league-leading five players named to the National Women’s Soccer League’s Best XI for March in goalkeeper Lorena, defender Alana Cook, midfielders Debinha and Lo’eau LaBonta, along with forward Temwa Chawinga. Debinha earned a spot on the Best XI of the Month team for the 14th time in her career, matching the NWSL record first set by Casey Krueger.
San Diego Wave and Kansas City will face each other again in the regular-season finale on Nov. 2 at CPKC Stadium.
