San Diego Wave FC will look to take over first place in the NWSL standings as it goes head-to-head against Racing Louisville at Lynn Family Stadium on Friday, June 9. The Wave is tied with the Thorns at 19 points each, but Portland has a better goal differential than San Diego.
The last time Racing Louisville and San Diego met was on July 15, 2022, at Torero Stadium with the game ending in a scoreless draw thanks to an outstanding performance from goalkeeper Carly Telford who filled in for Kailen Sheridan. Racing Louisville sits eighth in the standings and is coming off a 1-1 draw versus the Washington Spirit in its most recent match after having defeated the Chicago Red Stars 2-0 on May 31.
San Diego, led by head coach Casey Stoney, has scored 17 goals this season, which is tied for second-best with OL Reign, while Racing Louisville has scored 13 and given up 12 goals after 10 games. San Diego is led in scoring by 2022 Golden Boot winner Alex Morgan who has five goals tying her for the lead with Sophia Smith, Crystal Dunn, and Ashley Hatch. The Wave has yet to score against Louisville having been shut out on both occasions in 2022.
San Diego will return home to take on Southern California rival Angel City FC on June 17 at Snapdragon Stadium.
