Coming off a dramatic 1-0 win over Seattle Reign at Snapdragon Stadium courtesy of a late goal from midfielder Emily van Egmond, the San Diego Wave looks for back-to-back victories as they travel to Lynn Family Stadium to take on Racing Louisville on Saturday, April 13.
San Diego and Louisville met twice in 2023 with the Wave winning the second game 2-0 at Snapdragon Stadium in the final match of the regular season, clinching the Supporters’ Shield with that result. The two teams settled for a goalless draw in the previous meeting on June 9 in Kentucky. Racing Louisville has played three games this season with all ending in draws against the Orlando Pride, the Houston Dash, and most recently the Portland Thorns on March 30 in a game that Louisville dominated 2-0 after the first six minutes before giving up two goals in the second half.
San Diego has played two matches this regular season after winning the Challenge Cup final against defending NWSL champion Gotham FC on March 15. The team, led by head coach Casey Stoney, will have another road game on April 19 when they travel to face the Orlando Pride before returning home to face Bay FC on April 27.
San Diego finished with the best overall record last season and is looking to make its first trip to the NWSL final after reaching the semi-finals in its first two years since joining the league. It will also have the return of forwards Alex Morgan and Jaedyn Shaw, defenders Naomi Girma and Abby Dahlkemper, along with goalkeeper Kailen Sheridan all of whom competed in the recent SheBelieves Cup final on April 9.
