After a 1-1 draw at Snapdragon Stadium on June 7, which snapped the Orlando Pride’s eight-match winning streak, San Diego will take what could turn out to be a season-defining three-game road trip starting on June 15 versus the Washington Spirit.
San Diego sits in ninth place of the NWSL standings behind the North Carolina Courage but has played one less match than most of the other teams in the league. This will be the first meeting between Washington and San Diego since July 8, 2023, when they settled for a 2-2 draw at Snapdragon Stadium. The Wave will then travel to Red Bull Arena on June 19 for a rematch with Gotham FC. The two teams have played each other twice this season with San Diego coming out on top in the Challenge Cup final on March 15 and then tying 1-1 on May 12.
San Diego will end the road trip with a visit to Texas on June 22 by squaring off with the Houston Dash, which they defeated both times last season by 3-0 and 1-0 scores. The Dash sits in 11th place one point behind the Wave and has a -9 goal differential, which is third worst in the league.
The Wave will then return home on June 28 to play the Chicago Red Stars, which is in sixth place and has managed to turn things around after finishing at the bottom last season. The team, led by head coach Casey Stoney, will undoubtedly want all nine points out of the three upcoming road games, but a successful trip would be in the six to seven-point range. This would put the Wave back in playoff positioning with 12 games remaining on its schedule and with most of those at the friendly confines of Snapdragon Stadium.
