Our annual Summer Reading Program begins on June 1 and ends on Aug. 31.
The theme for this year is “Read. Renew. Repeat.” Children and adults are encouraged to read 10 books or for 10 hours to complete the challenge. Prizes include museum passes, food coupons and more. We will be hosting special shows for the children including science, puppets, animals, and music on Thursdays at 11 a.m. starting on June 13.
For additional program details, including a list of the prizes, visit: https://www.sandiego.gov/public-library/kidsandteens/summerreading.
Furry, feathered, and scaly friends are all part of the up-close animal encounters provided by the Zovargo Animal Show (pictured above) on Thursday, June 13, at 11 a.m. This unique educational experience inspires conservation stewardship.
Mad Science: Fire and Ice will teach kids how hot and cold science can be on Thursday, June 20, at 11 a.m. Experience crazy chemical reactions as we explore the states of matter.

The paintings of Glenn Osga will be displayed in the Winer Family Community Room & Art Gallery from June 5 to July 3.
He enjoys painting a variety of subjects including landscapes, wildlife, portraits, and trains. Some of his railroad focused work has been exhibited and sold at the Train Store in Silverton, Colorado. Come meet him at his artist’s reception on Saturday, June 22, from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m.
In July, the Library Shop’s most popular program is back – Where’s Odi?
Odi the Coyote, the library’s mascot, will be hiding inside all 36 branches of the San Diego Public Library. Pick up your official passport at any library branch and see how many you can find. The prize for finding Odi is a button unique to each library location. Try to collect them all!
The San Carlos Friends of the Library Used Book Sale is held on the first Saturday of each month from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Come buy books and support the Friends of the Library. Ask for a membership envelope from the book sale cashiers to join or donate to the San Carlos Friends of the Library. We are in need of your gently used book donations which are accepted any time during library open hours.
The City of San Diego added a new holiday in 2023, so all San Diego Public Libraries will be closed on Wednesday, June 19, in honor of Juneteenth.
