San Diego State University’s basketball teams are spending time in the Las Vegas area this week for their respective Mountain West Conference tournaments.
In men’s hoops action, the Aztecs scored a convincing 80-61 home victory over Nevada last Saturday evening to close the regular season. The night was special as the Aztecs honored six seniors playing their final game on Steve Fisher Court at Viejas Arena.
SDSU (21-8) jumped out to an early lead and was never seriously threatened, holding a commanding 43-21 lead at intermission.
The Aztecs earned the tourney’s number four seed and will meet fifth-seeded Boise State in a quarterfinal matchup Thursday afternoon at the Thomas & Mack Center. New Mexico is the number one seed.
On the women’s side, SDSU (22-9) sees its first action this evening (Monday) as it meets New Mexico in a quarterfinal matchup.
The Lady Aztecs come into the tourney as the number four seed like the SDSU men. The number one seed is host UNLV.
San Diego State wrapped up regular season play last Tuesday evening with a 75-61 victory over visiting Fresno State (top photo).
Before the game, five Lady Aztec seniors were honored in their final home game.
