A longtime sex offender was sentenced Friday, Aug. 31 to 66 years in prison for molesting two boys including one at a Mission Beach arcade.
Daniel James Tauro, who will turn 67 in a few months, was given the term by San Diego Superior Court Judge Timothy Walsh. Tauro got such a long sentence due to the three strikes law and he also received a consecutive 10-year term for his two prior molestation convictions.
Deputy District Attorney Amy Colby asked for the 66-year term, which was the maximum. His attorney submitted the case to the judge without a recommendation.
He pleaded guilty June 28 to 11 counts involving the two victims. Tauro received credit for 281 days in jail since his arrest.
One incident occurred at 2:50 p.m. Dec. 30 inside the Belmont Park Arcade in the 3100 block of Mission Boulevard. A 10-year-old boy said he was groped while he was in the arcade playing games.
The second boy was 9 years old and Tauro was charged with molesting him after charges were filed in the first case. Tauro lived in downtown San Diego at the time.
Tauro was declared a habitual sex offender in Los Angeles as a result of a molestation conviction in 1993, according to court records. He was convicted in 2000 of attempted lewd act with a child.
