Playoff action heated up in the last week for several local scholastic softball teams.
The Bishop’s School first finished regular-season play with a 1-0 win last Tuesday over Horizon.
Senior Laurel Casey provided the only offense with a home run in the fourth, while hurler Natalie Camarda struck out 12. The victory gave the Lady Knights a third-place finish in the Coastal League South.
In its first-round CIF contest last Saturday, Bishop’s rolled to a 15-0 victory over Borrego Springs.
Camarda fanned 12 on the mound in picking up the win, while Michelle Brunker went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs. Linnea Abeyta also had two hits and two RBIs, while Nicole Herman added a pair of hits.
The win moved Bishop’s into a May 20 meeting with Imperial High. The Lady Knights won 8-2 to advance and are scheduled to meet Francis Parker today, May 22, in Poway at Sportsplex USA.
University City High (15-6-2), which recently scored an 11-2 win over neighborhood rival La Jolla to finish regular-season play, hosted Brawley May 20 in a Division III quarterfinal match-up. The Lady Centurions hung tough and took the game to 10 innings before Brawley broke the stalemate and won, 8-7.
La Jolla High saw its season finish with a 5-21 record, 2-7 in Western League action.
At La Jolla Country Day School, the Lady Torreys finished the season with a record of 7-10 (2-8 Coastal South League). LJCD dropped its last five games to finish the season.
