
A couple of local girls softball teams saw action last week at the Torrey Tournament.
Host La Jolla Country Day (LJCD) School went 1-3 for the week. Playing in its first games of the year, LJCD lost to Calvary Chapel 9-1, beat Lincoln L.A. 4-3, lost to Holtville 8-7 and fell to Marian Catholic 3-2.
Sammy Berenter and Chelsea Burns led the way offensively for the Lady Torreys, while Brittany Dawson pitched all four games and was outstanding in each, according to head coach Jay Berenter.
The Bishop’s School also saw action at the tourney at La Jolla Country Day School.
Bishop’s opened action with an 8-0 win over Holtville. Next up was a 6-3 loss to rival Horizon. In that contest, pitcher Natalie Camarda had 12 k’s and also homered. The Lady Knights made seven errors, costing Camarda the win.
Bishop’s followed that game up with an 8-1 loss to Mater Dei. The Lady Knights rebounded to score a 4-3 win over Mountain Empire. In that contest, Brittany Allen scored the winning run from third base after Naomi Strauss hit the ball to second.
La Jolla High saw its record fall to 5-8 last week during play in the Longhorn Tournament.
The Lady Vikings fell to Valley Center 9-8 and then rebounded with a 20-2 rout of High Tech High.
After dropping an 8-3 decision to Mater Dei, La Jolla closed out play with a close 11-10 loss to San Marcos.
