The local girls softball scene is proving a hit so far for some.
At La Jolla High, head coach Ken Davis and the Lady Vikings sported a 5-2 record as of last week.
Jenny Russell has been doing well on the mound, showing a 4-2 record to date and also hitting well.
Third baseman Alyssa Taylor has three home runs so far, while Kristina Mendez and Lauren Steinmetz are also swinging the bat well.
Davis also noted the recent play of Becky Foster behind the plate, Lisa Fronek at second base and Katilynn Reilly at shortstop.
The Bishop’s School entered play this week with a record of 1-1 for head coach Thomas Abeyta.
After a 2-1 win over Coronado, the Lady Knights dropped a 20-5 decision last week to San Dieguito Academy.
“Although we didn’t play good defense, we didn’t do too bad at the plate,” Abeyta said. “The girls were in the game except for one bad inning in the fourth.”
At La Jolla Country Day School, the Lady Torreys will open play on April 5 in their Torrey Tournament.
