LJCD harriers make top 20 at state championship
The La Jolla Country Day School boys cross-country team journeyed to Fresno last weekend for the opportunity to run in the State championships for Division IV.
When all was said and done, Alex Poyhonen scored the top time for the Torreys, finishing in 12th place at 16:22 (personal best).
Other top performances for LJCD came from Dennis Roth (17:02, personal best), Alex Fleischhacker (18:12), Jason McCallum (18:34), Vinny Pujji (18:41) and Phillip Poyhonen (19:50).
As a team, the Torreys finished 17th, which is three spots better than last year.
“Given that we weren’t at full strength, I’m quite pleased that we made such improvements as a team,” LJCD head coach Scott Sanders said. “I’m even more pleased that we have no seniors on this team and can therefore look forward to even better things in 2008.”
