LJ harriers sprint by Cathedral, Hoover
In a dual meet last Thursday afternoon, the La Jolla High boys cross-country team topped Cathedral Catholic 24-31 and Hoover 20-43.
La Jolla was led by Trevor Dorne (16:20), followed by Michael Conroy (16:22), Angel Mendoza (16:28), Andrew Farkas (16:48) and Daniel Holl (16:58).
“It was a close race and only outstanding performances by a few made the difference,” LJ head boys coach Hal Goforth said. “We are still improving and this was an example of where we are at this point.”
La Jolla’s next race is the Jaguar Invitational on Friday at Kit Carson Park.
In junior varsity action, La Jolla fell to Cathedral 23-38.
Top La Jolla runners were winner Dylan Colborn (17:41), followed by Levi Ramos (17:55), James Giamonna (18:42), Dylan Boyce (18:44) and Bryant Hammerschaimb (18:58). La Jolla’s JV team beat Hoover 15-50.
Beach Tennis day will showcase new sport
Beach Tennis San Diego is promoting a free day of beach tennis at the Ocean Beach volleyball courts on Sunday, Oct. 21, encouraging residents to participate in what members are calling “the fun, new sport everyone is talking about.”
The event will include a challenge for competitive players and three courts for those who simply wish to learn and have fun, organizers said.
The upcoming event takes place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., and the Barnes Tennis Center will also offer free beach tennis court time the same day.
