VOLLEYBALLER NAMED PLAYER OF THE YEAR
A member of the PLHS Eastern League champion boys’ volleyball team was named the league’s player of the year.
Travis Doyle, a senior, was selected by league coaches as the top player in the seven-team circuit which also includes Morse, Patrick Henry, Serra, San Diego, Kearny and Mission Bay High Schools.
Named to the first team all-league squad were Doyle and teammates John Hook and Jason Shoemaker, both juniors.
The Pointers have finished as Eastern League champions three of the past four years under head coach James Sakasegawa.

The PLHS boys’ and girls’ swim teams named their top swimmers from the recently concluded season.
Senior Jason O’Brien was named swimmer of the year for the Pointer boys’ undefeated league champions (7-0 league, 12-0 overall).
Also recognized were Anthony Farris (50m freestyle); Noah Stevenson, Chase Schaffer, O’Brien and Farris (200-meter freestyle relay).
Top girls swimmers included Audrey Hauck, Elia Bouris, Hejira Whittaker, Erica Myrmel and Lauren Olcott (200-meter medley relay); Bouris (200-meter individual medley) and Whittaker (100-meter butterfly).
The Pointers girls finished 3-3 in league and 4-7 overall.
Team coaches are Jerry Rich, Joshua Fulks and Ken Toma.
