The Bishop’s School boys swim team improved to 6-0 after defeating Patrick Henry High School at their meet competition on Friday, April 18 in Allied Gardens.
“It’s a relatively young team, so it’s exciting not just for this season, but also looking ahead for the next few years,” said head coach Addison Seale.
Under CIF rules, athletes have to stop participating in club sports while that same high school sport is in season, but swim and gymnastics are the only two in CIF that you can still be part of your club team while high school competition is going on. Swim teams have the added advantage of being able to combine club swimmers and water polo players who swim to stay in shape and provide and extra dose of talent, particularly when it comes to sprinting in the pool.
“It’s an interesting sport because a lot of these kids are club swimmers and they continue to take part in their club swim team while the high school season goes on,” Seale added. “Something that we focused on this year was to hone in on creating the team dynamic not just for the club team swimmers, but also for those at junior varsity level. Our parents have been super gracious and supportive along with rallying around our coaching staff to support that atmosphere.”
Seale has been coaching at Bishop’s for last three years with the 2025 squad led by the efforts of its two seniors Caspar Lightner and Nicholas Koura with all swimmers also accumulating points per each race.
“Our relays are pretty stacked and we have a pretty deep bench considering how many club swimmers we have,” said Seale. “That’s super exciting as we go into city conference and CIF in the next couple of weeks. Our meets are always super fun and there’s a ton of energy.”
The team competes in the City Conference Western League and has one more meet, which will be on senior night this Tuesday at home versus University City. That will be followed by the City Conference Championships on April 28, April 29, and May 2 with the CIF championships starting the following week.
